An oak root has lifted my front walk two inches. Can you fix it without killing the tree?
Usually. Roots under about two inches can be cut a reasonable distance from the trunk; bigger ones we bridge with a thicker reinforced panel or route the walk around. On a big heritage-sized oak we'll have you get an arborist's opinion before anything is cut. If the heaved panel is the city sidewalk, we replace it under a right-of-way permit to the city's detail.
Is it worth resurfacing a 1988 pool deck?
If the deck is sound — not dropped more than an inch, not cracked through — yes: $3,200 to $6,800 for a cool-deck or knockdown overlay versus $8,500 to $17,000 for a new deck. If it has settled toward the pool we lift it first; if it's spalling everywhere and rocking, it's time to replace.
My driveway has dropped at the garage. Why?
The sand under the garage side was backfilled around the foundation when the house was built and has been settling for thirty-five years, helped along by a downspout that usually dumps right there. Foam lifting brings it back up; extending the downspout keeps it up.
Do I need a permit to replace my driveway in Belle Terre?
