The short answer
Resurfacing a typical 600- to 800-square-foot Palm Coast pool deck with an acrylic cool-deck or knockdown overlay costs $3,200 to $6,800 in 2026 — $4.50 to $8.50 per square foot including pressure washing, crack and spall repair, the texture coat, color and sealer. If sections have settled toward the pool, foam lifting them first adds $850 to $2,600. A new deck of the same size is $8,500 to $17,000. The overlay is the right call when the slab is sound; the new deck is the right call when it isn't.

How to tell which one you need
Resurface it if…
The finish is chalking, hairline-cracked, stained or peeling paint, but the deck is level within a hair, the coping joint is intact or just needs sealing, and nothing rocks when you walk it. That's most Palm Coast decks from the 1980s through the 2000s.
Lift it first if…
The deck has dropped toward the pool — a gap at the coping, a lip between panels, water pooling against the shell — but the panels are whole. Polyurethane foam injected under the slab raises it back in a morning; then it's resurfaced.
Replace it if…
Panels are broken into pieces, the deck has dropped inches, it's heaved over a root, or it's spalling everywhere from rusted steel — common on the island. An overlay on a moving slab fails in a season, and we won't sell you one.
What's in the overlay price
Pressure washing at high pressure to strip dirt, mildew and loose finish; grinding off old paint where there is any; routing and filling cracks; patching spalls with a polymer mortar; a bonding primer; the acrylic texture coat sprayed and, for a knockdown, troweled flat; color; and a UV-stable sealer with a non-slip additive — salt-rated on the island. Two to three days of work, walkable the day after the sealer.
What moves the number
Old paint that has to be ground off adds $1.60 to $3.25 a square foot. A lot of cracks or spalls add repair time. A deck with the enclosure's columns set into it needs the columns masked and the edges hand-finished. A stamped overlay instead of a texture roughly doubles the per-foot price. And the island — the Hammock, Flagler Beach — gets a marine-rated sealer and a shorter reseal schedule.
Keeping it
Reseal every two to three years, sooner by the ocean. Keep sprinklers off the deck. Fix the coping joint the day you see a gap. And if a corner starts to drop, call before the finish cracks — a small lift is a lot cheaper than a lift and a resurface.
Common questions
How long does a cool-deck overlay last?
Eight to twelve years on a sound deck with a reseal every two to three years — less by the ocean or under sprinklers, more on a shaded deck that's resealed on schedule.
Can you resurface without taking the screen enclosure down?
Yes — resurfacing happens inside the cage with the columns masked. Only a full deck replacement where the columns are set into the old slab needs the enclosure contractor involved.
Is the pool usable during the work?
Mostly. The pool stays full; we mask the coping and keep the overlay out of the water. You'll be off the deck for two or three days and out of the pool on the day the coping joint is sealed.
Can I paint the deck instead?
You can, and it's why half the decks we resurface have three layers of peeling porch paint on them. Paint is a film that traps moisture from a slab sitting on damp sand and lets go within a couple of years. An acrylic overlay bonds and breathes.
Does resurfacing need a permit in Palm Coast?
Generally not — it's a surface treatment. A new deck or a replacement that touches the enclosure's footings does, and we pull it.
